Trying to get a handle on your home maintenance on the inside and outside?
Well, you’re in the right place.
I started a home maintenance challenge.
Each week I provide sample tasks to work on.
I base our challenge on checklists and recommendations from websites that showcase experts.
Many people find it hard to keep up with their house projects and general maintenance for their home. . .especially when it’s super hot.
I think we are all tired of it by August. It is VITAL to maintaining your property value, sanity, and sense of order. It also helps to potentially avoid bigger problems down the road that can cost a lot of money.

Whether you are working on a large ongoing project, simply completing small tasks around the house, or just looking to inspect your home. . .post comments, blog posts, and updates here.

This week check in on gutters. If you don’t know how to do this, call a handy friend or hire help.
For this week:
If gutters bring leaves and debris your way, clean it out. Lowe’s has useful videos to watch on Youtube for cleaning gutters. It’s also the first line of defense for keeping dirt out of your house. I noticed my welcome mats looked a bit worn after inviting company over. You can only shake them out so much. Purchasing a new welcome mat is so inexpensive. Think about getting washable cotton rugs too.
- Inside– Clean your couch covers. If you have a couch that’s covered with fabric. Take the covers off and wash them. We often forget to do this.
- Outside– Prevent potential water damage by cleaning your rain gutters. This is a must-do home maintenance task that you can do yourself or hire a professional to do the work.
Here is a video from Lowe’s that shows you how to do this.
- If you already completed this or have another ongoing project you are working on, feel free to post that as well. The weekly challenge is an attempt to provide structure to your routine. We’d still like to see what you are working on. Here’s a sample, How to Vinyl Tile Your Bathroom Floor for 30 Dollars in 360 Minutes.
I adapted some of these ideas from the CNN Money’s Home Calendar for August.
