My Madison, CT Inn Stay: FAQ, Lodging & Local Fun

My husband and I stayed at The Homestead, a boutique inn that felt equal parts stylish and homey. The moment I arrived, I noticed thoughtful details that made the stay extra special:

Each guest room has unique charm—mine was Room 5, which came with a large walk-in closet, a digital faux fireplace, a record player, and even a towel warmer for those cool coastal mornings.

Also, there is on-site parking which makes coming and going easy. There are multiple patios and two firepits that encouraged slowing down and soaking it all in. Before I get fully into the details of what it’s all about, I wanted to back up a little and cover some basics.

We were graciously hosted by The Homestead Inn in Madison, CT during our, but as always, all opinions expressed are entirely our own.

Top Spots to Relax and Enjoy in Madison

If you’ve never heard of this area, Madison, Connecticut is known for being one of the top beach towns along the shoreline. Beyond the sandy beaches, the town features walkable streets lined with cafés, boutiques, a celebrated bookstore (R.J. Julia), and a charming independent movie theater.

The E.C. Scranton Memorial Library and the town green offer a quaint backdrop, and you’ll find both upscale and casual dining all within walking distance. Madison offers small-town charm with a cultured, coastal vibe that draws visitors from near and far.

Do you have to pay for breakfast at a bed and breakfast?

You don’t have to pay an additional charge for breakfast at a bed and breakfast. It’s usually wrapped into the price. That’s one of the benefits of staying at this type of lodging. You don’t have to find a restaurant each day or remember to buy food to put in the fridge, though you can.

What kind of breakfast does a bed and breakfast serve?

Breakfast offerings differ from one inn to another. Some offer a light self-serve spread with fruit and pastries. Others serve a daily rotating dish, switching between hearty savory options and indulgent sweet selections.

At the Homestead, we enjoyed mini corn muffins, egg bites, yogurt, and fruit. Before my stay, they asked about any dietary needs, and since I mentioned I was gluten-free, they made sure to have gluten-free cookies available throughout my visit. They also offered a variety of other small treats for everyone to enjoy.

Why This Madison, CT Inn is a Perfect Stop

What makes The Homestead stand out is its balance of luxury and ease. Nestled just off Boston Post Road, it’s minutes from beautiful beaches yet still close to Madison’s lively town center. After a busy few weeks of home renovations and work, we truly needed a break—and this stay delivered.

The inn is surrounded by greenery, set back from the street, and has a calm, coastal energy. The modern interiors are clean and welcoming, while still maintaining that cozy, small-town feel. Highlights included vitamin-infused showerheads, high-tech bidet toilets, and of course—those charming room features like the towel warmer and record player, as mentioned.

I started my mornings with sandy walks and salty air, then strolled into town where shops and restaurants are all within easy reach. It’s one of those rare places that’s both close to shops and restaurants yet tucked away enough to feel like a true retreat.

After a packed summer and nonstop to-do lists, I needed a few days to fully unwind in a quiet, comfortable, and coastal location. The Homestead Inn in Madison, Connecticut checked all of the boxes—a charming, design-forward retreat closely located to some of the state’s best beaches.

This stay was the perfect low-key escape for me and my husband but honestly, I think it’s for anyone simply needing a reset.

It’s the kind of place where everything feels intentional—chic but still comfortable. The check-in process was smooth and I was greeted by friendly staff.

What makes The Homestead truly unique is its attention to small, personal touches. Each room has a record player and cozy fireplace. Bathroom towel warmers add warmth and a homey feel. The Homestead welcomes dogs under 35 pounds, making it pet-friendly. It’s minutes from beaches, perfect for relaxing vacations. I joked with my husband: finally, a truly relaxing trip.

Inside Room 5: Stylish, Spacious, and Full of Thoughtful Touches

I stayed in Room 5, and it had everything I needed to feel relaxed and settled in. The space was open, clean, and modern without feeling cold—just clean, comfortable, and aesthetically pleasing. My favorite surprise? The record player and a small stack of vinyls. The staff asked me in advance about my musical tastes and they were ready in the room when we arrived. Listening to records was such a fun, unexpected way to unwind at night, and gave the room a cool, nostalgic vibe.

There were plenty of other thoughtful touches too, like a faux fireplace, a towel warmer (yes, really!), and even a bidet in the bathroom. The walk-in closet was way bigger than I expected, which made unpacking feel less like a chore and more like settling in.

Whether you’re visiting with your partner, a friend, or on your own, Room 5 feels like a little private escape—with just the right mix of comfort, style, and fun details.

Around the Property: Firepits, Patios, and Space to Unwind

The Homestead encourages you to take it slow. With outdoor patios, firepits, and several inviting seating areas, it’s easy to relax with a morning coffee or unwind in the evening with a glass of wine.

Our room even had its own private patio. Accessibility is also a plus—there are ramps for wheelchairs, making it senior- and mobility-friendly.

While there’s no on-site restaurant or spa, they do offer a light, self-serve breakfast (as mentioned), and there are tons of great restaurants and cafés just a few minutes away. Madison’s town center is close, so you don’t have to go far to find good food.

Things to Do Nearby: Beaches, Bites, and Boutiques

One of the best things about staying at The Homestead is how close you are to everything. You can be at the beach in under five minutes. Whether sunbathing, reading, or walking, nearby beaches await. The Homestead provides towels and chairs.

The town center is also super close, and it’s full of cute shops, local boutiques, and great restaurants. We visited bookstores, grabbed coffee, and enjoyed meals locally at Comomango. Also, nearby, coastal trails and easy hikes offer nature escapes.

Everything was really easy to get to, and most places had plenty of parking. You could easily spend your whole weekend here without ever needing to hop on the highway. Best tip: Park at Stop and Shop near town.

If you want to venture out further, there are many other places to visit in Connecticut that aren’t that far away such as The Florence Griswold Museum, The Essex Steam Train, and the casinos.

What Made My Stay Memorable: Little Touches and Great Vibes

What stuck was The Homestead’s thoughtful, special, subtle details. The record player became a big hit—I loved picking a vinyl and relaxing to music after a long day. I also loved the remote-control candles that look just like real flames—they added a cozy glow without any hassle. I loved the room so much and felt so relaxed, I almost didn’t feel like going out to explore.

The whole room had such a calming, modern vibe that felt both stylish and comfortable, and of course, being so close to the beach was a huge bonus.

On top of that, the staff were friendly and helpful, always ready with a smile or a local recommendation. The vibe throughout the inn felt intentional and welcoming, which made it easy to just unwind.

If you’re planning a trip, I’d recommend packing a good book for lazy mornings, some sunscreen for beach walks, and your favorite snacks for late-night patio hangs. Whether it’s a romantic escape, a girls’ trip, or just a break from the everyday, The Homestead is a spot that hits all the right notes.
