What is Harlem known for?

Harlem is the capital of African-American culture and entertainment. It’s headquarters for everything from jazz to hip hop, with an abundance or talent in every corner! This area is also known for its rich history and cultural diversity.

How do I spend a day in Harlem?

Harlem is a unique and vibrant community with so much to offer. If you’re looking to experience some of the history and culture of Harlem, be sure to check out the Apollo theater, enjoy a meal at one of the many delicious restaurants, or explore some of the historic areas. Harlem Restaurants

Harlem restaurants are a must-try for foodies. From soul food to fine dining, there’s something here that will suit your taste buds and budget!

According to USA Today, “Harlem is home to tons of takes on fried chicken, live jazz in many restaurants and bars, and food internationally influenced by prevalent populations, from Caribbean to Spanish fare.” There’s also African and French cuisine. Be sure to check out the restaurants of celebrity chefs too!

Historical Places to Visit in Harlem, New York

If you’re looking for a new and exciting place to visit in New York City, consider visiting Harlem. With its rich history and abundance of cultural attractions, there’s a lot to do in this vibrant neighborhood. Be sure to check out the Apollo Theater, Alexander Hamilton’s House, and the Brownstone district when you’re in Harlem – you won’t be disappointed!

The Apollo Theater

Harlem is a historical place that has been home to many different cultures and traditions. There are so many places you can visit in Harlem with its rich history, from the Cotton Club where African American musicians used perform during Jazz Age through modern day New York City’s own culture!

The historic Apollo Theater still exists and is a haven for African American culture in New York City. It’s been around since 1934. Big names such as Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Sarah Vaughan, Sam Cooke, Sammy Davis Jr., James Brown, Gladys Knight, Luther Vandross, Lena Horne, Lauryn Hill, and loads of others began their path to fame on the Apollo stage.

Comedy greats Like Richard Pryor, Red Foxx, Jamie Foxx, Steve Harvey and many others have also come through the Apollo.

According to the apollotheater.org, “Today, the Apollo is a respected not-for-profit, presenting concerts, theatrical and dance performances, film screenings, education and community outreach programs.” Also, be sure to check out Amateur Night at the Apollo!

Alexander Hamilton’s House

Alexander Hamilton was born in Harlem and retired there as well in what became known as Hamilton Heights—a posh neighborhood home to modern day area. He built his estate in 1802 called The Grange at 141st Street. This was one of the only houses he ever owned.

Amazing Architecture

We touch on the incredible architecture in this area of NYC, but we merely scratched the surface. I found a Youtube video to supplement some of the excellent information shared which includes info from the Harlem Renaissance.

The Truth About Harlem Hotels and Airbnbs

This part of NYC is home to some of the most renowned restaurants, cultural centers and beautiful public spaces in New York City. As such it’s not surprising that there are so many great places to stay for visitors who want to stay overnight in Harlem.

Harlem, New York Hotels

One thing I never knew is there aren’t many 4 star hotels in Harlem, New York. However, there is one trendy boutique hotel called the Aloft Hotel. It is through Marriot.

The Aloft Hotel is a fun and stylish hotel in Harlem. Their website boasts that this “vibrant, tech-savvy hotel is less than a 10-minute walk from can’t-miss attractions, including the famous Apollo Theater, iconic Central Park, and the fast-paced community of Harlem itself.”

Airbnbs in Harlem

Since Harlem has many restaurants, cultural centers and beautiful public spaces in New York City. It is a great place to be if you’re looking for some culture and history. It’s not surprising that there are so many great AirBnBs available for visitors who want a taste of NYC without stepping into Manhattan!
