Simple and Unique Bucket List Ideas to Do at Home
If you have to stay home for any reason, it doesn’t mean you have to just sit around. Make the most of your time. I’ll share some ways to ward off cabin fever and hit the reset button on your interests.
Before we delve in, you can grab a pen and paper to make a bucket list of these ideas or even call it something else if you like.
What is another word for bucket list?
There are many other words for bucket list. Here are a few:
- Dream List
- List of Goals
- Aspirations List
- Ambitions In Life List
- Life List
If naming it something different helps you complete it, call it whatever you like.
Unique Bucket List Ideas for Those Interested in Photography
Assuming that you have a knack for photography or you’re just guilty of taking a wide range of selfies, there’s always room for improvement. While most people have access to a camera on their phone, it doesn’t always equate to being a great photographer.
Think about adding “sharpening your photography skills” to your list of life goals. You can majorly up your photography game when you get back to ticking off items on your travel bucket list and take much better photos in general.
Perhaps, you make the subject look directly at the camera. Or maybe move your subject off center a bit to improve the shot. Even using flash while outside can greatly enhance how your photos come out.
Once again, anyone can point and shoot a camera, a more skilled photographer takes composition into account. Composition is how and where you place your subject along with everything else in the photo.
I was fortunate enough to learn this back in a high school photography class many years ago. Today you can learn about the rule of thirds, perspective, balance and when to try different angles to take more interesting photos.
Whether you prefer landscape or headshot photography as ideas for a bucket list, check out this video on Youtube about composition for beginners to take better photos. Use the ideas to try on your own using an iPhone, fancy camera or another device.
If you’re serious about learning, consider getting a book about smart phone photography and take the perfect pictures for Instagram or your own private use.
Maybe you’ll have some great images to share on social media or you could even turn your masterpieces into a gallery wall ideas like the way Joanna Gaines does.
Buy a bunch of different size frames all at once and get your photos printed to fit like the photo below or opt for black frames in varying sizes. You can put up a gallery wall in a weekend and show that you have skills too.
Unique Bucket List Ideas for the Decorator in You
One of my short term goals and simple bucket list ideas was to paint my living room. It was long overdue. It never occurred to me to redecorate the whole room. I saw a commercial about a couple that got their home designed virtually.
They explained how it was easy and affordable. I’m not sure if redecorating my living room was really one of my long term goals or if it was just something I didn’t admit to putting off. I immediately added this as a bucket list idea.
If you see rooms on Pinterest or fancy pieces of decor at the store, but you’re not quite sure how to make it work in your space, consider getting help from experts. An experienced interior designer can charge as much as $100 an hour. If that’s not in your budget, think about getting help for less.
Free Online Programs
There are free online virtual room programs that allow you to create rooms to see what colors look like in a virtual space and what pieces go nicely before buying them.
Get Help Affordably
If you’re still not sure how to add interest to a room or perk up your living space, think about taking it a step further and getting some virtual guidance from experts. I recently used Modsy.com. I think it’s perfect for people who want a designer’s help for less.
Send pictures of your space with measurements and comments about what you’re looking to do with the room. Once you sign up and submit the information, you’ll get your room designed by experts.
Though there are different packages with varying price points and levels of help, you’ll receive designs in 3D. You can then revise things until it’s what you ideally envision.
Here’s a sample of one of the designs they made for me for $89. I think this is one of the most fun bucket list ideas I eve completed.
Though I have to paint and save up for new furniture, I ordered some of the tables. I had a rectangular coffee table in my living room. I like how this designer selected a round table.
Prior to doing this, I never realized how many pieces were rectangular or square in the room. This one circular piece opens up the room and completely refreshes the space giving it a nicer look and feel. The table also addresses one of the concerns I mentioned about needing more storage in general.
I can’t wait to paint and get as many pieces as I can!
Simple Bucket List Ideas for Netflix Addicts
Make a list of movies you’d like to see. Use a blank movie list template to jot your movie bucket list down, get one with a top movies list as a pre-made checklist or click here to get both types of movie lists.
You can also make a list of comedies you’d like to watch. Whether you search for your favorite stand-up comic or catch them in a popular movie on Netflix, it can’t hurt to add a light, healthy distraction into your daily schedule. It’s a simple bucket list thing to do alone or with friends and family.
In fact, it can work to your advantage since laughter is good for you and helps reduce stress. I mentioned that before in a previous post that includes my favorite bucket list examples that improve your health.
Though initially this might seem like one of the most unusual bucket list ideas, getting together virtually is the new normal right now. If you were hoping to watch anything with someone far away, you can watch it alone together! Order some healthy snacks and you’re good to go.
Connect with friends and loved ones that you can’t be with to watch at the same time. You can even group chat too. Put together a virtual movie night today by installing Netflix Party!
Meaningful Bucket List Ideas for Helping Others
There are many people in need. Perhaps your neighbor lost their job or someone you know has fallen ill. Think about the most appropriate way to help out. Maybe you buy them groceries, send a card or offer emotional support.
You can also help people across the United States or in your local area by donating to feeding the hungry. In the USDA’s 2019 Household Food Insecurity in the United States report, over 37 million people in the United States battle hunger. Check out websites like FeedingAmerica.org to see how you can help.
The Salvation Army has a variety of ways to give. Make a one time monetary donation or give money on a monthly basis. Donations can also come in the form of clothing. Go through your closets and give away items in good condition to those in need.
Consider donating your time too. Create a fundraiser in honor of your birthday, wedding, anniversary, holiday, etc. and have people you know donate. Consider other ideas listed on the Salvation Army website.
Other Ideas to Help Others
- Frequent local restaurants
- Support businesses that offer nationwide shipping such as Katz Deli in New York (where they filmed When Harry Met Sally)
- Help Black-owned businesses, women run businesses and small business owners
