Hobbies for women at home are in demand. If you’re spending more time around the house for any reason, take advantage of it by discovering some new hobbies to try.
If you’re wondering, “What hobbies can you do at home?” There’s a vast array of hobbies to pick up without having to go anywhere.
No matter if you want to express your creative side or boost your brain power, there is a good hobby out there waiting for you. I put together a list of hobbies to do at home to get the wheels turning.
Great At-Home Hobbies for Women of All Ages
1. Test out some creative hobbies
Whether you typed in “hobbies for women in their 20s” or “hobbies for women over 50,” any age group can partake in creative hobbies. Learn how to draw with precision or sketch in a more abstract way. Maybe you even learn how to knit or crochet. For the cost of some yarn and needles, it can’t hurt to try.
Also, explore your options on sites like Pinterest to nurture your inner artist. Whether it’s something you try once or continue for years to come, experiment and see what you like.
2. Online classes can become great hobbies
Online classes have become immensely popular for all ages. No matter if you take a virtual dance class or learn about the fundamentals of coding, women at all experience levels can participate. There are a wide variety of websites that offer information from experts in different industries. Many of these classes are completely free too.
Explore sites such as Master Class, Skill Share, Khan Academy and many others. I personally tried Master Class and especially loved the photography classes with people like Annie Lebovitz, Jimmy Chan and others. I also enjoyed the cooking classes and liked Wolf Gang Pucks recipes. I also learned about authentic Mexican cooking as well as tips in general from master chefs. There are even people I watched for fun like the comedians and entertainers.
3. Take up livestream workouts as a new hobby
With people leaving formal gyms, Pelaton stream workouts have become a big hit. Working out in the privacy of your own home can be a great option to help you save time and stay fit.
No more packing a gym bag or waiting for your turn on a machine. Gain access to a variety of live and on-demand workouts using the Pelaton app. If you want to test things out before you buy, try out all of the classes for free with a 30 day trial.
4. Yoga can be a relaxing hobby
Practicing yoga is the perfect way to unwind or stretch after a tough workout. Try out yoga with experts like Rodney Yee. I’ve enjoyed some of his Yoga DVDs. When I was a new mom, my back would ache from holding my kids all of the time. I even did back care yoga while sitting in a chair to feel better!
If you’re up for a challenge and want something more advanced, go to YogaJournal.com and look up Firefly, King Pigeon and Lord of Dance poses. There’s a form of yoga to suit everyone. You just have to look around.
5. Become a collector
If you wonder, “Is collecting things a hobby?” Collecting is very much a hobby. Whether you like gathering sea glass from every trip to the beach, compiling interesting postage stamps or devoting a room to sport collectibles, it’s all up to you.
Collecting items can be a thrilling thing to do. Getting completely absorbed in a collection hobby can help take your mind off of things. This can also give you a sense of purpose outside of a job and allow you to unwind in your spare time.
6. Learn to dance at home
Dancing is a form of exercise and a fun hobby to take up. Try out a new dance craze or learn how to swing dance. There are many instructional videos on YouTube even for those who have two left feet. Get step-by-step instructions to learn a two step or a hip hop move. And, remember to always dance like no one is watching.
7. Roasting coffee at home can be a fun hobby
Did you know that people used to roast coffee out of necessity prior to WWI? According to the book, Home Coffee Roasting: Romance and Revival, what began as a necessary process to roast coffee is now a relaxing hobby.
I plan on trying this before the end of the year. Starbucks will have nothing on me. If I get good at it, maybe I can give them away in a DIY coffee gift basket for the holiday or another special occasion.
8. Coloring is one of the best hobbies for relaxing
Coloring isn’t just for kids. There are many adult coloring books in bookstores, on Amazon and other places around the web. If you are wondering, “Why do adults like to color?” Like making a cake, learning ballet or any other activity that requires focus, it’s considered a mindful activity that helps you stay in the moment.
9. Watching movies can become an interesting hobby
Movies can be a welcome break from the stressors of everyday life. You can get completely engrossed in a movie and forget about your worries.
Think about the types of movies you’d like to check off of your movie bucket list. See what’s available for you to view at home. Maybe you watch every movie that Ryan Gosling or Meryl Streep have starred in or catch up with every film directed by Martin Scorsese.
I’m still trying to catch up with award-winning movies from the past couple of years. I even typed up a list of movies, created a blank checklist and a movie journal printable to nerd out a bit. Take a peek at my movie list here.
10. Writing can be a great hobby to express yourself
Writing is an inexpensive way to enjoy yourself. From poetry to blogging to journaling about simple bucket list ideas, there are many ways to take part in a writing activity. Just grab a pen and paper (or type in a digital doc) and you’re good to go.
